Mask of Tutankhamun

Tutankhamun's coffins and his mummy were made in the traditional form of the god Osiris, so that, through imitative magic, his body would be reanimated just as the dead body of Orsiris had been revivified. As a deseased king, however, he had another chance of survival; by being identified with the sun god, whose body was made of gold and his hair of lapis luzuli. This mask with it's gold face and neck, and its eyebrows and eyelashes of lapis luzuli, seems to represent him as the sun god and thereby secure him a solar afterlife.
