Faience Vessel

One of eight slender vases of a type called "HES". They belong to a type that was regularly used both in libation ceromonies and for ritual lustrations. They are mad of faience a material invented in pre-dynastic times, consisting of a core of powered quartz heated until it fused into a compact mass and then coated with glass. The blue or green colours were obtained by copper compounds.
